The Possibility of Health

Health is not a fixed state. It's something the body is always moving toward, always trying to express. The normal function of a living human body is to maintain itself, to coordinate, adapt, heal, and keep going. When we support that process, we experience health. When we consistently work against it, we don't.

What's worth questioning is where we've been taught to look for help.

We live in a world that constantly suggests someone else holds the key to your well-being. That health is something you purchase rather than something you participate in building. In the meantime, the habits that wore the system down in the first place often continue unchanged, until the symptoms get loud enough to require a prescription. When you step back and look at that clearly, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Disease doesn't arise from a deficiency of medication. Health doesn't come from a pill. If it did, we'd take those things when we were feeling our best, to stay there. We don't, because somewhere we know that's not how it works. True health isn't given to you from the outside. It already exists within you, waiting to be expressed.

That expression starts with possibility.

Possibility means something that has not yet become actual. Something real that hasn't arrived yet. The biggest obstacle to it is the belief that what already is, is all that can be. If the only lens we have is the current situation, we can convince ourselves nothing will change. But possibility lives outside the visible. It's in what hasn't been expressed yet.

Thomas Edison is a useful example here. When he set out to build the light bulb, there was no light bulb. The thing existed only in imagination. It took over a thousand attempts to bring it into the physical world. If he had looked at the darkness and decided light was impossible, we'd still be sitting in it. What carried him through was his ability to hold the image of what could be, even when nothing around him confirmed it.

That same capacity lives in you. The body is not a closed system waiting on an external fix. It is an intelligent, adaptive process that responds to what you give it, including what you think, what you believe, and what you imagine is possible for yourself.

This doesn't mean ignoring real symptoms or refusing care when you need it. Sometimes outside support is necessary. What it means is that real change, the kind that actually holds, starts from within. It starts when you open yourself to something different. When you quiet down enough to let a new perception arrive.

That's a practice. Meditation, movement, honest reflection, clearing out the beliefs that have been running quietly in the background telling you what you can and can't do. The more you work that muscle, the more available possibility becomes.

You are not stuck. The intelligence that built your body from a single cell is still here, still working. The same force that organizes life at every level is the force you are made of. When you remember that, even briefly, something in you relaxes. Something opens.

That opening is where health begins.
