I learned it by living it.
Everything that has shaped me happened because I lived it, became it, and am still becoming it. Not in a classroom. Not from a book. In the actual terrain of my own life.
I grew up in Northern Michigan. Fishing, hunting, farming, construction, wrestling, skateboarding. A lot of time outside learning how things work with my hands. Nature was my first teacher and I have never stopped going back to it.
I have lived in San Francisco for over twenty years. I have learned to move between worlds and meet people where they are. That range shows up in every session.
I know what it is like to carry something heavy from early in life. Learning to work with it rather than against it has been one of my greatest teachers. What once felt like a wound has become one of my greatest tools for being present with people who are carrying something of their own.
What I have learned is this. I have real freedom in how I direct my life. How I think, how I act, how I meet myself, all of it shapes who I am and who I am becoming. Through compassion I create an opening to allow myself to change and grow beyond what I currently think I deserve.
